SETS

As a show on a small budget, Forever Knight did not—could not—have a large number of permanent interior sets.  There was a limited amount of space in which they could be built.  Almost every episode required additional scenes shot on location, since, like all cop shows, Forever Knight also had to film the murder scenes, homes, and work places that were specific to the mystery of the week.  Furthermore, since the series was not made by a major studio, there was no back lot of permanent exterior sets.  Pretty well all exterior scenes also had to be shot on location.

Having said this, though, some places appeared in all (or nearly all) episodes; and others in a fair few.  These were the places associated with the daily life of the regular characters—where they lived and worked.  For these, of course, permanent sets were built.

In writing transcriptions of the episodes of Season IV, I needed to know as exactly as possible what these permanent sets looked like.  Only then could I work out how the things on the set were located relative to one another, and how an actor—or a camera—would have to move in order to get from one place to another.  What route, for example, would Tracy take from her desk to the coffee machine?  How would Nick go from his refrigerator to turn on the television set?  How would Natalie go from her desk to view an X-ray?  Or Reese from his own desk to the filing cabinet in his office?

To appreciate the plots of the episodes, you do not need to know this detail.  But to interpret the description of movement as I have written it, it might be helpful.  Therefore, in 2004, when this site was started, I wrote a webpage for each of the permanent sets that I used in Season IV; and, so far as possible, I illustrated these with pictures from the actual episodes.

Subsequently, I copied all the completed descriptions to the Forever Knight Wiki, where I had the space to considerably expand them with both additional text and more comprehensive illustration.  The links below will therefore take you to the appropriate pages in the wiki.  The exception is the page for LaCroix’s study, since that set is not from the actual series but particular to Season IV.
