An Immortal Named Bruce

Background: this little bit of fluff was inspired by a discussion on the Internet, regarding gay characters on Highlander. Someone asked why there weren't any, someone else pointed out that just because a character wasn't blatantly gay didn't mean he/she was straight, and added a few comment on what a "stereotypical" gay Immortal would look like. This short piece was inspired by that exchange.

Paris, France, late 1700s

Duncan, dressed in severe Puritanical black (to reassure homophobic viewers, who know nothing about historical costume), is walking down the street. He suddenly "feels" another Immortal, and looks around.

Bruce turns a corner into the street. He is dressed in gold-embroidered lavender satin, dripping with lace and jewels. His long, curly wig is topped by an ostrich-plume-covered hat, his shoes have jewel-encrusted high heels, and he carries a folded fan in one hand and a tall walking stick decorated with lavender ribbons in the other. He strikes a pose, left wrist on hip, and lisps, "I am Bruce the Joyful. There can be only one, cutie," then twists his walking stick, revealing a narrow blade hidden inside. The ribbons trail from the amethyst-studded guard as he takes the infamous "limp-wrist" stance.

Duncan also draws his sword. "I am Duncan McLeod of the clan McLeod," he says, advancing, "And don't call me 'cutie'."
